I've been thinking about this trip as trying on cities: hopping from place to place, looking for that perfect fit.
I look for a balance of comfort and class, something simple but surprising. Something with beauty, elegance, charm, and a little quirk.
When trying on cities, it is important to take your time. Walk around in them: both the main streets and side roads. Do what feels right, sometimes push the comfort zone. Eat, drink, sit, watch, go about tasks of everyday life, mix and mingle.
Some places are just for special occasions, others you wear one time and move on. Some your like better and better each time you try them on. And some are love at first sight.
Welcome to Florence.
From the hipster coffee shops to the artisan workshops, this city is one I feel right at home in. It is a small city brimming with creative energy, and steeped in history. I've wandered the halls of the Uffizi, climbed the Duomo, got lost in the Boboli Gardens, and eaten more gelato than I would like to admit. It feels... just right.
